It is essential to provide workers with the best possible protective gear, especially when you’re dealing with injuries that can cost over $200,000. In a dangerous industry like oil and gas or utilities, using protective gear is not just a good idea - it’s the law. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has a detailed set of specific requirements that are enforced by fines and they have the ability to close down non-compliant facilities.
Using protective gear is the law, not a choice
According to OSHA’s oil and gas industry studies, failure to provide proper protective gear can lead to serious workplace accidents. For example, a worker who receives burns to over 50% of his body requires an average of 54 days in the hospital and can cost the company more than $780,000 in lost revenue and medical bills. The sad part is that many of these incidents investigated by OSHA could have been prevented simply through the use of proper protective garments.
