The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) new standard contains criteria for determining multiple aspects of glove performance and protection levels. Most of the attention has been in regards to enhancements to our cut resistance levels. In effort to provide consumers with improved performance ratings, our industry now has more levels with smaller gram performance ranges to better determine the most appropriate safety gear.
Our plans for managing and promoting cut protection levels and other criteria going forward: Any gloves we promote for cut protection will have "cut protection" incorporate in the logo along with style number, ANSI cut and abrasion levels, and CE scores. New ANSI cut levels with easily be identifiable with the alpha letter A prefix. ANSI abrasion scores will be included only if available.
It is anticipated that the European CE standards will be changing soon in effort to move closer to global standardization by using the same testing equipment and similar ANSI cut levels. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
